We Need Help Before Next Disaster Strikes

It has been at least five months since two sisters of Navoli in Ba have been living in a tent after their house was destroyed by Cyclone Winston.
Angeline Narayan, 62, and her sister, Pushpa Devi, 61, last week had to ask their neighbours for wires and ropes to reinforce their tent home as the rain continued to fall.
Their house has not been repaired and they fear it may be too late with the cyclone season fast approaching.
They are calling for any kind of assistance because they have no one to help them.
“My house was completely destroyed along with my belongings in the cyclone. The roof of my house was completely blown away and since then it has never been fixed,” Ms Narayan said. “We want the Government to come and see our situation and understand our grief. We have no one to support us two but survive from the social welfare payment monthly.
“The ropes that hold our tent are about to wear out and I had to go out and look for wires to tighten the hold.”
Ms Narayan and her sister were raised in the house which is now vacant since the cyclone.
Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation has been informed about the two sisters. The ministry’s spokesperson, Anshoo Mala Chandra, said they would look into the situation.
