Delegates and guests to the Methodist Church in Fiji’s Annual Conference will be officially welcomed in a special service at the Centenary Church in Suva today.

The Methodist Church’s Annual Conference and Festival of Praise began on Friday, while the solevu (fundraiser) began yesterday. This special service will take place at 10am. Ordained ministers, deaconesses, lay leaders, women and youth representatives from over 57 divisions are converging in Suva to discuss ministry issues.

Church secretary for communication Reverend James Bhagwan said other guests were from the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church in the United States of America.

Reverend Bhagwan said an ordination service for the 11 clergy would be held at 7pm at the Centenary Church.

He said the President of the Church Tevita Banivanua was expected to address the representative session of Conference (for both clergy and lay leaders) speaking on issues affecting both the Church and Fijian society.

“Apart from choirs, there are polotu and bhajan categories and the 57 divisions will also have their stalls with many serving traditional food during lunch,” Reverend Bhagwan said.

The conference will continue until Friday, while the Festival of Praise ends on Saturday.
