The Methodist Church of Fiji’s annual conference traditional drive (solevu) will be directed towards refurbishing Methodist schools around the country.

Church secretary for communication, Reverend James Bhagwan said members of the ex scholars association gave their funds at the solevu.

“Members don’t necessarily have to be Methodist or Christians to take part but it was a form of giving back to the Methodist education system that has helped shaped you.”

He said the main aim of the drive was to develop the school infrastructure within the school.

“The schools will prepare a project proposal so that we can have a transparent process of knowing where the money goes,” he said.

“Some of the schools are the oldest in the countries and people are coming out in numbers to support the worthy cause.”

Mr Bhagwan said they were expecting to raise $200,000 from solevu.

He said it was also in line with their launch of their decade of education at this year’s annual conference.

Mr Bhagwan said the day also marked a time for fellowship, reunion with members from all around Fiji and the world.
