Nanukuloa Edge Navosa

Nanukuloa fullback Leweni Bicivanua played a man-of-the- match performance in the 6-3 win over Navosa in their Vodafone Rugby Trophy match at Nadovu Park in Lautoka yesterday.

A week after returning home disappointed following a no-show by the Nadroga Under- 23 side, the men from Ra held off the heavier Navosa side to clinch the narrow win.

Bicivanua, who kicked both penalties for his side was a thorn in the Navosa defence with his slicing runs every time he handled the ball.

Last week the side won by default but was furious over their opponents not turning up resulting in Nanukuloa wasting valuable finance in travelling to Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

What Happened: Navosa seemed the more aggressive side in the first spell and squandered a lot of opportunities through bad decisions.

This came back to haunt them at the end which would have given them a win had they taken kickable opportunities when Nanukuloa was penalised.

Navosa took the early lead with a penalty from first-five eighth Napolioni Kuruciri but this was soon levelled by Bicivanua for both teams to go to the break locked at 3-3.

Nanukuloa came out a different side in the second spell and their attacks became more frequent.

Although Navosa dominated in the lineouts through lock forwards Joji Nareki and JonetaninYalayala, they made little progress.

Five minutes after the break, Bicivanua took Nanukuloa into the lead with his second penalty and this stayed until the end of the match.

Big Play: Bicivanua’s darting runs and kicking game frustrated Navosa.

Comments: Nanukuloa coach Moape Bolebole;

“I’m happy to secure our second win in the Vodafone Rugby Trophy.”

Navosa manager Eroni Tuinuku

“We had opportunities to kick for goal but wrong decisions cost us the game.”

Meanwhile, in the East Zone Rewa beat Northern Bulls 12-7 while Cakaudrove fought back to beat Serua 19-14 at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.
