Pacific Sprinters Struggle In 100m Heats

Team Fiji 100m sprinter, Sisilia Seavula came eighth in her heats of the Rio Olympic Games at the Maracana Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil yesterday.

Running in the first heat, Seavula clocked 12.48 seconds while the race was won by Desiree Henry of Great Britain with a time of 11.08s. Second was Marielle Ahoure of Cote d’lvoire with 11.17s and Nataliya Pohrebnyak was third with 11.30s.

In the 100m Heat 5, Cook Islands Patricia Taea also came in eighth with a time of 12.41s.

South Pacific sprint queen Toea Wilsil was placed fourth in Heat 4 with a time of 11.48s. The race was won by Elaine Thompson of Jamaica with a time of 11.21s.

  1. Shelly- Ann Fraser-Pryce (Jamaica)- 10.96s
  2. Michelle- Lee Ahye (Trindad 7 Tobacco)- 11.00s
  3. Marie- Josee Ta Lou (Cote d’lvoire)- 11.01s
