Two Drivers Charged For Fatal Accidents

Police have confirmed that two drivers involved in separate fatal accidents in the Western Division have been charged.
In the first incident that occurred on August 4, a seven-year-old died after he was hit by a vehicle when he allegedly crossed the road suddenly along the Queens Road, near Malolo, Nadi.
The driver has since been charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death. He has already appeared in court and has been bailed.
The second fatal accident occurred where a 51-year-old farmer of Vatia, Ba, died. A 41-year-old man has been charged for allegedly causing his death. The accident occurred along the Kings Road, near Tavarau, Ba, on August 11.
The accused has been charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death and bailed to appear at the Ba Magistrates Court on October 11.
The road death toll currently stands at 36 compared to 38 for the same period last year. With the number of major events occurring, Police are pleading with all road users to be vigilant and safe.
Of the 36 deaths, 15 were pedestrians, and seven were found to be at fault resulting in the accidents.
Police are again calling on the public to take the issue of road safety more seriously.
