The Ministry of Education is looking at developing educational cartoons as teaching aids.

Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Mahendra Reddy said local examples and names would be used.

He made the announcement at the opening of the Early Childhood Education (ECE) conference at Tilak High School in Lautoka yesterday.

He said children loved cartoons.

Mr Reddy said: “We intend to develop resources using local examples which baby sitters and nannies can use while they are looking after the children at home or at day care centres.”

Addressing the large crowd of ECE teachers, he said Government was committed to invest persistently in the education sector.

The President of the Early Childhood Association Fiji, Minal Ariyan said Government deserved to be acknowledged for the continuing investment in ECE by increasing the Budget.

She also commended the ministry’s effort to host the conference.

“As the president of the ECE Association and a partner in this conference, I see huge potential these kinds of events will do for us.

“This is an exciting event as ECE stakeholders share, discuss and elaborate about our journey, our beliefs and principles towards the improvement of the ECE so we can achieve both planned and unplanned outcomes,” Ms Ariyan said.

The conference’s theme: “Cherishing and educating our children for an equal and prosperous future in Fiji” gave teachers the opportunity to share their views.

The conference ends today.
