Festival Much Better: Taxi Driver

This year’s Hibiscus is much better than what we expected, says taxi driver Allen Narayan.

He was enjoying some family time at the Vodafone Hibiscus Festival at the Vodafone Arena.

He said last year the ground condition was really bad and he was expecting the same this year.

“It was shocking to see better ground conditions despite the rainy weather for the past week,” he said.

“I am glad my kids can come and enjoy the rides and walk around without worrying about the type of shoes and clothes we wore.”

He also said he made a lot of money during the first few days.

Taking time out too with her family was Davina Prasad. Pleased with the new venue she said: “My daughter and I were passing by when I saw the march and decided to come down for a short visit but I was happy to see the response from other families having fun and enjoy the food out here.

“Thanks to the Hibiscus committee, we got a better venue and better ground conditions.”

Movie vouchers for queen, king contestants

The 2016 Vodafone Hibiscus Queen and King contestants were each presented movie vouchers by the Damodar Group.

The Group’s chief executive officer, Div Damodar, presented the movie passes to 13 queen and 11 king contestants last Saturday along with five extra passes for the Hibiscus officials at Damodar City Centre.

The vouchers are valid for six months. Mr Damodar is urging the contestants to be role models for youths here.

“I urge them to take on this great opportunity to show everyone that we all can join our hands together to make our country much better, much safer,” he said.

The contestants were also pampered with Donut King treats.

Donut King general manager Helen White said she was excited when asked to host the king and queen contestants.

“Just for the contestants, we invested a new donut for this event which we’ve called ‘Donut Royale’ in honour of our special guests,” she said.

“It was great to see everyone enjoying our new donut with our coffee and milkshakes.”

The Donut King staff members were equally excited to host the contestants.
