Bainimarama Government recognises the need, says Attorney-General.

Early childhood in Fiji has been neglected in times past, says Attorney-General and Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Speaking at the opening of the mobile kindy Fiji tent yesterday at the 2016 Vodafone Hibiscus venue outside the Vodafone Arena, he said: “The Bainimarama Government and FijiFirst Government recognises early childhood education.

“I want to thank all the teachers who have been underpaid for years and these are the very people who have formulated the minds of our children. Overall as a country we need to oversee and recognise the fact that early childhood education is important.”

The director of the little ones learning centre, Analesi Tuicaumua, was overjoyed during the opening.

“Kindy at the park started seven years ago and its main goal is to advocate on early childhood learning focusing on disadvantaged communities around the Suva area,” Mrs Tuicaumua said.

“It’s been exciting that the Government can recognise our work today by having the honourable Attorney-General here.”

The mobile kindy Fiji, which was set up four years ago, focuses on disadvantaged communities in various parts of Suva.

And with Government’s commitment on a pay rise of early childhood educators this will definitely boost the performance of the teachers around the country.

The centre has 12 staff members and four supporting staff.

The programme aims to set up centres around the country and become a pilot model across the Pacific region.
