Western hockey giants Saint Thomas High School (STHS) and Sangam Sadhu Kuppuswamy Memorial College (SSKMC) have stamped their marked on the Westmere Cup in the Under-19 girls division.

This was after compiling yesterday’s results of the Tuckers Fiji Secondary Schools Hockey Association competition. The uneven surface of the four playing fields has an effect on the teams from Suva who are used to playing on turf.

With pool games due to finish this morning before the semi-finalists are decided, STHS, under husband and wife coach team David and Patricia Bennion were leading their pool with two wins and a draw.

The Lautoka school accounted for Ratu Navula College 2-0 in their opening match, then went on to beat St John’s College of Levuka 3-0 before being held to a 1-1 draw by Cathedral Secondary School.

SSKMC of Nadi, who are the defending champions also look strong following their 4-0 drubbing of CSS and then managing the same score against SJC.

Both teams are yet to meet and this would decide who tops Pool A.

In Pool B, St Joseph Secondary School look the stronger team and were currently leading the pool with a 1-0 victory over Gospel High School and then scoring a 2-0 victory over Xavier College of Ba.

BOYS

In the Bhasin Cup U19 boys section, STHS were leading the pool with a 3-0 drubbing of Marist Brothers High School and a 1-1 draw with SJC. Xavier College is the only other school in that pool with a 1-0 win over SJC and a scoreless with MBHS.

U16 GIRLS

In the Sandy’s Cup U16 girls section, defending champions St Joseph Secondary School looks likely to op Pool A following a 3-0 win over STHS and later defeating Xavier College 1-0 while Adi Caokbau School looks to be the team to beat following a good 3-0 win over CSS.

U16 BOYS

In the Noal Gibson Cup for the U16 boys, Tilak High School was declared outright winner following wins over MBHS (2-0) and SJC (1-0) in Pool A. Pool B was still wide open for table topper with STHS and Nabua Secondary School having a win each.
