The Fiji Driving School Association yesterday questioned the introduction of a new system proposed by the Land Transport Authority for provisional licences to be approved by the three regional managers.

“How long will it take for regional managers to approve the provincial licences,” questioned association national president Rajesh Aryan.

“Most regional managers are busy and would take time to approve these licences.”

Mr Narayan was speaking after a special meeting at Rishikul Sanatan College in Valelevu yesterday by the association who met to discuss the new system.

LTA board chairman Vijay Maharaj said now the sign off should be done by the three regional managers in the three divisions.

He said this was to ensure that all procedures were followed in relation to obtaining a license and when it was issued.

“We have set certain requirements, that the alumni has to go through, like going to the oral examination and all that has to be complied with and the regional managers have to make  sure these procedures are strictly followed for licences issued which has been lacking in the past,” he said.

Mr Maharaj clarified that LTA regional managers would now have to give these matters priority if someone had applied for a driving licence.

“They have to ensure that all the procedures that have been set should be complied with no question of being busy. That’s part of their KPI’s,” he said.

“What we have now taken on board is that all three regional managers must ensure that all these procedures from the time the learners start learning their driving up to the time their license is issued.

“I think that is very important and we will ensure that this is done.”
