Fiji At Countering Transnational Organised Crimes Meet

Fiji Police Force Senior Superintendent Aporosa Lutunauga is part of a five-week course on Countering Trans-national Organised Crimes at the George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies in Garmisch-Parttenkirchen, Germany.

There are 86 participants from 58 different countries around the world.

The director for strategic planning, policy, research and development, SSP Lutunauga, is the only participant from the Pacific.

The Marshall Centre is a renowned international security and defence studies institute that promotes dialogue and understanding among the nations of North America, Europe and Eurasia.

SSP Lutunauga said trans-national organised crime was a critical issue to Fiji because it poses a threat to our national security.

“Drugs, human trafficking, cyber-crime and people smuggling will affect our safety, security and well-being of our country,” he said.

“It has already affected many developed countries and Fiji will be no exception given our strategic location in the Pacific.”

He said Fiji was an ideal route for trans-national crime and could be exploited and used as a transit point in the movement of drugs, people and artefacts.

“The course has been beneficial in terms of exchanging ideas, networking and collaboration, identifying challenges and best practices to bring back to Fiji and articulate it in our local environment to protect our resources, our people and our country,” he said.
