Methodist Church secretary for communications Reverend James Bhagwan said funds raised during the solevu (fundraising drive) of the annual church conference raised a total of $431,000.

Reverend Bhagwan said $224,340 was given by the Methodist old scholars on August 13 at the opening of the solevu at Furnival Park in Toorak, Suva.

He said $88,424 was raised at the closing of the solevu for the Methodist Church Education project by the graduates/alumni of the Methodist Tertiary Institutes – Davuilevu Theological College, Deaconess Training, Methodist Lay Training Centre and Navuso Agricultural Training Institute.

He said around $312,000 would be for the President’s Trust Fund and kept separate from the church operating account – the schools would be able to access these funds for development projects (the money goes back to the schools).

He said by 1pm yesterday, around $119,664 had been collected as contributions from choirs, which would cover the cost of the Festival of Praise (scaffolding, sound, communications, printing, refreshments, ground development (utilities) etc.

The Festival of Praise ended on a high note yesterday at Furnival Park in Toorak, Suva, with over 30 choirs taking part.

The Festival of Praise was part of the Methodist Church’s annual conference where over 300 choirs took part over the week.
