Sisters, Mareta Naiqovu and Vasiti Tikomalua, originally of Navaga Village in Koro, were among the first  to arrive at ANZ National Stadium, Laucala Bay, Suva, yesterday.

Ms Naiqovu, 63, fought back tears of joy.

“To be part of the celebrations is indeed a blessing for us and it has also brought smiles to those affected by Tropical Cyclone Winston in Koro.

“Villagers in Koro are also celebrating the win today and I hope that this win will bring people from different races together,” she said.

Ms Naiqovu said they were at the stadium around 8am.

Her sister, Ms Tikomalua said it was special day for them.

“It is special because I am able to come and witness the celebration with my sister, we were overwhelmed.

“I can imagine the amount of celebration they are having back in Koro, even the day Fiji won in Rio they were happy and started celebrating.

“We are here to represent all our relatives in Koro who were affected by the Cyclone and I hope that Fiji’s win brings nothing but happiness and the sign of a new beginning,” she said.

They live in Nadera between Suva and Nausori.
