117 Schools Fail to Submit Audited Reports, says Minister Reddy

Ministry of Education has so far audited 35 schools at random
Two secondary schools and 115 primary schools have not submitted their audited financial reports and annual general meeting minutes.
Responding to Fiji Sun queries, Education Minister Mahendra Reddy said this was a major concern and the ministry was doing all it could to help.
He said they were carrying out audits at random and so far they had audited 35 schools.
Mr Reddy said they acted on complaints from the public and on instincts. He said they might see something that did not look right and they would go in to audit.
He said they had come across some incredible discoveries.
Mr Reddy gave an example of a school paying $4000 for the cutting down of a tree in the school compound.
Mr Reddy said the ministry had now managed a number of school administrations, but it could not sustain them in the long term. He said the idea was to help the schools and train them to administer their own affairs efficiently.
