Mobile App On Women’s Issues Here

Medical Pacific Services has launched a local mobile application in a bid to raise awareness about women’s health issues in Fiji.
The mobile app, ‘Girl Empowered’, is the second edition of the application and is now available in booklet and by android phones from www.msp.org.fj.
Founder and executive director Medical Services Pacific, Jennifer Poole, said the new mobile app was free and had been tested on android smart phones and soon would be available on IPhone.
Ms Poole hopes that people will make use of the application as it is customised for Fijians.
“This is a discussion tool and practical guide for youth, as it discusses topics such as sexual, social and reproductive health, social support and human rights, designed especially for girls and young women in Fiji,” Ms Poole said.
She said the app covered the topics of greatest importance to girls and young women.
“It includes body changes and puberty, sexuality and relationships, contraception, pregnancy, diet and body image, social issues, human rights and lifestyle choices. New sections include Counselling, Dealing with Bullying and Preventing Suicide & Being Different is OK,” she said.
“The first edition of the Girl Empowered booklet has already been distributed to many schools across Fiji.
“The Medical Services Pacific mobile outreach team has distributed the booklet and provided health education to over 3327 students in schools and communities.”
She has urged the young girls and women to make use of the application.
