Referees who will be officiating during the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament were handed their new attires yesterday.

The sponsorship was made possible through mobile phone service centre, Foneology.

Handing over the sponsored attires, the company’s managing director James Trusler highlighted the role referees play in any sport.

“Referees play a crucial role for the development and betterment of soccer in Fiji and around the world,” he said.

“That is the reason Foneology took the opportunity to sponsor the referee’s attire to assist in the growth of the sport in the country through uniformity, which also will help the referee to stay focused,” he said.

“Foneology is proud to come on board as sponsors to provide new attires for the Fiji Football Referees Association and we look forward to being part of the future development of soccer in our country.”

Trusler said soccer as it is commonly known in this part of the world has come a long way.

“We have witnessed the national Under-23 football boys play at the Rio Olympics.

“This indeed is a great incentive for the young children of Fiji to work towards,” he said.

He thanked FFRA for the opportunity as they now look forward to more partnerships in future.

Fiji FA referee’s director Rakesh Varman said the sponsorship indicate that they have now recognised the hard work by referees throughout any tournament.

“I thank Foneology for coming out boldly to support the referees.

“Thank you for helping lift the standard of refereeing in Fiji,” he added.
