The Nadroga football team are using the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants as a build- up to the Vodafone Premier League competition and to avoid being relegated.

The Stallions are leaving no stones unturned in their preparation as they know the importance of lifting their performance.

Nadroga Football interim president Tiko Matawalu said their aim is to go into the tournament and improve their performance against the big boys.

“If we win it will be a bonus to us but we plan to go and participate well since we are at the bottom of the points table in the Vodafone Premier League,” he said.

Matawalu said the team last tasted victory in 2001 at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka when they beat Labasa 7-6 in penalty shootout.

“This year we are bringing in new players. They are very talented as an individual but we are bringing them together to try and make them play as a team.

“We have managed to set-up a team in the last two days and have been working on their combination, match fitness and a bit of organising for the boys well-being. We have brought the boys to camp to ensure their availability during training, which has been a challenge.

“Also because we do not have finance and resources like other teams have, so this works out well for us because we serve them their meals and also ensure their accommodation is done up well.”
