Fijian 7s rugby skills coach Chris Cracknell returns to London after being honoured as an Officer of the Order of Fiji yesterday.

He was among the players and officials that received their awards at State House from President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konousi Konrote.

He dedicated the honours to head Coach Ben Ryan.

“First of all I want to thank Ben, I wouldn’t be happy as I am today if it wasn’t for him bringing me to Fiji, I owe him,” Cracknell said.

“Also I want to thank my Mum, dad, brother and my lovely girlfriend who I don’t spent time with because I spent more time in the South Pacific with rugby teams both men and women.”

Cracknell will definitely miss the smiling kids with rugby balls playing rugby in the community.

“If there was one thing I would miss in Fiji that would be little kids playing rugby which is also my happiest moment here,” he said.

“I can remember one afternoon driving from Pacific Harbour to Suva I stopped in a place outside Lami where I saw these four little boys holding the rugby ball which half their size and playing rugby.

“They were offloading, playing full contact rugby and shouting out’ I’m Osea Kolinisau, I’m Semi Kunatani, I just smiled.

“These kids are fantastic future athletes, they are always smiling and this is something I will miss.

“This country has given me so much in the last two years and helps me to rebuild my life.”

Yesterday’s event was an emotional moment for him.

“I’m just amazed, lost of words and quite emotional, I’m truly honoured.”
