What happened:  Good start for the ‘Men in Black’ in the first round of the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament defeating Nadroga 1-0 at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori yesterday.

Ba got off to a strong start in the opening minutes controlling possessions and were ruthless in defence. The team laced with experienced players like Osea Vakatalesau, Mavileko Nakama, Alvin Singh, Malakai Tiwa and Laisenia Raura were able to control the first 45 minutes.

Great effort from the Ba midfielders with less than 10 minutes remaining to halftime, Nakama striking the first goal.

Halftime: Nadroga 0-1 Ba

It was also a slow start from both sides in the second half seeing both the sides failing to utilise their chances. Nadroga deserved to be commended with their effort as they were able to play a defensive game to prevent Ba from scoring.

Big play: Nadroga played a gutsy performance in 90 minutes as they were able to disrupt Ba’s game plan.

Star turn: Good control from the Ba midfielders.

Comments

Ba head coach Imdad Ali: “Good start for us in the first round, the boys played really well.

“We rested some of our players that returned from Rio in the first half but it was teamwork that got us through.”

Nadroga Football president Jikoibau Matawalu: “I’m happy with the performance of the team, I’m happy considering many factors that we have to overcome coming to this B.O.G.

“The first challenge was players’ availability. It’s not like rugby where players come to the ground for training but in Nadroga we have to look for players.

“We have six new players and I know Nadroga fans will be happy. We don’t come to this game expecting very big results.”
