The Singh’s Rental Lautoka soccer side has never seen a stronger bond among amongst its players for a long time. This togetherness, according to skipper Peni Finau is the secret weapon that has seen the Sugar City side stand out amongst other teams during the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament.

Lautoka are quietly confident of their chances of winning the B.O.G, since their last win was in 1985. Finau said he put this down to good coaching from Kamal Swamy, who is unfortunately not to be with team and their present coach Anjinesh Prasad. Swamy is presently undergoing medical treatment in India.

“The players listen and learn from the coaches and it’s the togetherness in the team which has made work for them easier on the field,” he said.

Finau said the side has now learnt to have a good game plan for each team they face. He said the secret to beating Ba was to see their pattern and which players commandeered the field.

“We looked at who their generals were and worked out that Avinesh Swamy, Malakai Tiwa and Roneel Prasad controlled play.”

With that sorted out, Lautoka tightened the noose around these players and they noticed that Ba began playing long balls.

“With that done, we managed to get through their defences and win the game. Ba is very strong and we were lucky our game plan worked against them,” he said.

“So far so good and once the team played with the right attitude everything else fell into place.” Finau said Rewa would be strong on their home ground but they have worked out their plan and with the right mindset, they hope to come out victorious.

“We are not looking at the final right now but we have not won the B.O.G for a long time and this could be our year,” he added.
