Corrections Case Sent To High Court

The case of Lieutenant-Colonel Ifereimi Vasu, Peniasi Kunatuba and Dhansukh Lal Bhikha has been transferred to the High Court of Suva.
Suva magistrate Makereta Mua said yesterday: “It is in the interest of justice as the FICAC counsel has elected the High Court I will transfer the matter to High Court.”
Former Commissioner of Fiji Corrections Services Lieutenant-Colonel Vasu, former Fiji Corrections Service director corporate services Peniasi Kunatuba and businessman Dhansukh Lal Bhikha had elected trial in the Magistrates Court.
Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption Prosecutor Rashmi Aslam made an application that the case be transferred to the High Court of Suva.
Vasu and Kunatuba are charged with one count each of abuse of office.
Bhikha is charged with one count each of aiding and abetting abuse of office and obtaining a financial advantage.
They have pleaded not guilty. Their bail has been extended.
The case will be heard in the High Court in Suva on September 16.
