No Extra Time For Exams: Chandra

No extra time should be given to students to finish their exam, says Ministry of Education senior education officer for exam, Amitesh Chandra.
During a one-day chief examination supervisors’ workshop at Labasa Civic Centre yesterday, Mr Chandra reminded the participants to follow the guideline given by the ministry.
“No extra time should be given to students sitting for Year Six, Year Eight, Year 10, Year 12 and Year 13 examination,” Mr Chandra said.
“As per according to the guidelines, all schools should begin and end examination at the same time.
“There are about 80 chief supervisors in Northern Division and a few are new to this field of work.
“The objective of this workshop is to educate supervisors on the importance of their roles and responsibilities which they play in the conduct of national examinations to ensure that the integrity of our examinations is upheld and enhanced.
“We are also training them what to do before and after examination such as how to organise exam papers.
“There are some areas where we are trying to create awareness such as chief supervisors to double check students’ index numbers.
“This is the most important element used to get correct marks and also used to ratify when problems are raised by students.
“We have informed supervisors time and again to ensure that students write down their correct index number.”
He said during the examination the ratio of one supervisor was to 30 students excluding the chief supervisor.
