Wet conditions affecting Fiji roads

The continuous wet weather the country has been experiencing has impacted Fiji’s roads, and Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) has focused its attention on sites that require restoration.

One of these sites is Khalsa Road, which is a major pothole reduction area.

Working under the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) maintenance programme, FHH construction manager, Phil Tombs, said part of FRA’s maintenance programme was to upgrade roads such as Khalsa Road.

“The area we’re working on covers about 5000m2 over four different sections. We’re milling out about 100 millimeters off the top material and replacing it with some new material,” Mr Tombs said.

Mr Tombs added that the reconstructed sections will be stabilised 200 millimeters deep with cement and a two-coat seal.

FHH continues to rehabilitate roads in the urban, sub-urban and arterial roads in the Central Division.

Mr Tombs advises the travelling public to drive with caution.

“With Fiji’s wet weather events, we are doing our best to improve road conditions.”
