Commissioner Central Setareki Tale has urged stakeholders to not only think about the non-communicable diseases crisis, but for Fiji to act now.

“The statistics in relation to NCD’s in Fiji is a call to attention. Fiji must act now,” Mr Tale said.

Mr Tale was speaking during the opening of the 2016 Vodafone Tebera Carnival at Syria Park in Nausori on Saturday where a big crowd turned up.

Mr Tale said a total of about 80 percent of all deaths in Fiji were caused by non-comunicable diseases.

Mr Tale said the need for Fiji’s NCD strategic plan should be realised, there should be coherent action across all sectors within Government and communities, including individuals and families.

Mr Tale was also grateful with the carnival’s theme of “Go Green Go Healthy” providing the opportunity to bring awareness in the fight against NCDs.

He thanked the Tebara Carnival Organising Committee for making it all happen in its second year revival, after a lapse of 12 years. As well as major sponsor Vodafone.
