Sixteen-year-old Jade Matthews was among 30 market vendors at the Na Koro market yesterday.

She is a Year 10 student at the International School Suva and she was fundraising for her school trip to Australia next year.

Jade was participating at the Na Koro Market with her button art for children for the first time.

“Today is my first day at the Na Koro Market and it’s really amazing.

“I am fundraising money for a field trip to Australia next year,” she said.

Jade said their field trip to Australia was being organised by their school, but the students had to pay for their fare.

“We will be visiting Australia to watch theatre performances and visit other places,” she said.

“I aim to collect at least $2000.”

At the Na Koro Market she allowed children to make designs, drawing and painting using her buttons.

“I got button art idea from the internet. My mother is an artist so I have learnt artwork from her,” she said.

Jade said her mother also sews and they have had many recycled buttons at their home which she has used at the Na Koro Market for children to design.

“I am now busy with my school work and do not have much time to do artwork. Therefore, I am letting children to do the artwork,” she said.

The price of the printing screen which the children paint, draw or design on using the buttons costs $15.00.
