PM Applauds Rugby Sponsors

The Vodafone Fiji-led consortium of sponsors which includes Fiji Airways, C.J Patel Group of Companies, Telecom Fiji Limited and HFC Bank presented $340,000 to the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday.
Bainimarama, who is also the Fiji Rugby Union president, received the cheque on behalf of the victorious Fijian team who won gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics Games last month.
The team of 17 players and officials will receive $20,000 each.
Bainimarama acknowledges the sponsors for their generosity.
“On behalf of the Government and the FRU we would like to thank the consortium of sponsors for the assistance as this will be a great investment for the players and their families.
“I mentioned during the national 7s celebration what our rugby victory means. It t brought us together, the way Fiji became the centre of world’s attraction, there is so much to be thankful for this milestone achievement.
“My special thanks to the consortium group, Vodafone Fiji, Fiji Airways, Telecom Fiji Limited, CJ Patel Group of Companies and HFC Bank.
“Your support towards FRU and our gold medallists and their families is very much appreciated. Thank you very much to be part of the ‘Road to Gold’ campaign.
Vodafone chief executive officer Pradeep Lal said the team deserved to be rewarded.
“The players have delivered and earned their bonus as just rewards for their performance,”Lal said.
“Three years ago when the Vodafone-led consortium took over the sponsorship of FRU, we agreed to work as One Team with One Dream and that was to take Fiji Rugby to where it rightfully belonged – right to the top.
“We are therefore extremely proud of the achievements of the Vodafone 7s team. With back-to-back win in the World Sevens Series and the gold medal winning performance at the Olympics, the team thoroughly deserves the status as the No. 1 team in the world,” Lal said.
Vodafone thanked all its consortium partners for their contribution.
“We have proved that as local companies if we all work together and pool our resources for the common good, we can achieve greater things for our country.”
