Fiji Ports Terminal allocates $5m to procure machinery

The board of directors of the Fiji Ports Terminal Limited made a $5 million budgetary allocation to procure a modern heavy lift machine.

Fiji Ports Terminal Limited chairman, Hamukh Patel, said this is currently under discussions with the eligible suppliers.

He made the comments at the $280,000 bonus payout to the Fiji Ports Terminal employees yesterday.

“The port operation is always a combination of man and machine,” he said.

“In this regard, we do continuous training to uplift the knowledge and the skills of our employees.

“More so we procure the state of art equipment to max the skills towards the achievement of increased productivity.”

Mr Patel said their progress depends on very much on the ability to work internally as one team building a positive organisation culture.

“This focus continues to be our top priority,” he said.

 

Adopt a School initiative

He also announced that under the Government’s Adopt A School Programme, they had selected a school.

The school namely Vashisht Muni Primary School located in Tagitagi, Tavua had suffered damages of $117,000 to its infrastructure.

The Fiji Ports Terminal board of directors had decided to actually cater for the entire interim cost.

 

Port productivity

Meanwhile, Mr Patel added whilst they continue to motivate their employees through various incentives, they need to further enhance the port productivity.

He highlighted the need to move towards the achievement of industry needs to transform Fiji into a regional logistic hub.
