The Geotech sponsored Marist Hockey tournament set for September 23 is going to be bigger and better compared to previous years. A total of 16 teams including one from New Zealand are expected to take part at the National Hockey Centre, Suva

Marist Hockey executive Paul Fraser told SUNsports yesterday that they are excited for the tournament to start as this year marks the 22nd anniversary of the renowned Marist Eastgate Memorial Hockey tournament.

“This is one of the biggest events in the country and we want to keep it like that,” Fraser said.

The tournament will pay tribute to Harry Apted and Sidney Eastgate. Every year since 1995, the Marist men and women’s hockey clubs of Suva have organised tournaments to pay tribute to the two most influential people who made immense contribution to the sport.

“Everyone is really looking forward to the competition and as organisers we are trying to make the tournament as successful as we can. We are very excited, so far we have five confirmed teams from the west which includes two women’s and three men’s team.

“We will also be inviting an overseas team from New Zealand which should offer some good competition with our local teams. I just want to say that all this could not be possible if it weren’t for our sponsors Gary and Charlotte Barnet of Geotech.”
