Filipe Kaicoco still lives in a tent with his family at Kade Village, Koro.

But yesterday they were at Albert Park in Suva to celebrate the first Constitution Day.

“We were in Suva to check out our building material. We did not want to miss this event,” Mr Kaicoco said.

Their house was among many that were destroyed by Tropical Cyclone Winston in February this year.

Mr Kaicoco, 55, said this Constitution was for everyone.

“I have read it and I am happy with it,” he said.

“Some people are saying their iTaukei rights are not protected. That’s not true. iTaukei rights are, in fact, protected.”

Mr Kaicoco, a former soldier, said Fiji was a multiracial country.

“We should understand each other, being honest and let’s help one another.

“I am happy that the people in Fiji are interacting with each other.

Mr Kaicoco said he had registered under the Help for Home Initiative from the Government.

“We’re still living in tent and makeshift shelter waiting for materials from the Government. We know there is a shortage,” he said.
