Police Arrest Alleged Fake Doctor

A man is in Police custody for allegedly operating as a fake doctor.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday confirmed his arrest.
Fiji Medical and Dental Secretariat’s Dharmesh Prasad said they received a complaint on Monday.
“The patient had seen the fake doctor yesterday and we sought the help of the Police and the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and we were able to apprehend the fake doctor.
“The man used to go from house to house charging people $75 per visit. People came from the village to get his help.
“He alleged he got his qualifications from Israel and he had medical equipment that could detect any illness which was all false.”
Mr Prasad said for cardio medication the man was prescribing cough mixture which is also false.
“The patient who was checked by the fake doctor came to my office and reported the matter on Monday,” he said.
“The patient was suspicious of the way the man checked people and used the stethoscope that did not add up.
“The patient came to my office wanting information on the doctor under the name of Siti Waqa.”
He said there was no one named Siti Waqa who was registered.
