A three-bedroom house along the Chemist Lane at the Fiji Sugar Corporation compound in Labasa was completely destroyed by fire on Tuesday night.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the fire took place between 9pm to 11pm.

“It is believed that the fire started from the upper wall and ceiling of the living room,” Ms Naisoro said.

“The house occupant, a 40-year-old staff nurse was away in Suva.

“Her three children, their uncle and aunty were sleeping at the time of the incident.

“There is no casualty and the cost of the damage is estimated at $160,000.

“Our joint investigation with National Fire Authority is underway.”

NFA chief fire officer Qionilau Moceitai said the fire officers at the Labasa Fire Station responded to the fire and investigations were continuing.
