Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption (FICAC) has received a complaint regarding National Federation Party Member of Parliament Prem Singh for false declaration under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Decree 2013.

FICAC confirmed this yesterday.

Investigations into the breaches which were identified by the High Court in Lautoka in a judgment in a civil matter will commence soon.

When contacted yesterday, Mr Singh said: “It is an observation of the court and my legal team is looking into it with a view of appealing. I want to say more but it would be subjudice,” Mr Singh said.

Party leader Biman Prasad said: “All I can say is that Mr Singh is obviously seeking legal advice.

“The party is separately seeking legal advice and going through the judgment at this moment. We will be able to comment more sometime next week.”

The Fijian Elections Office has also taken interest in the ruling by Judge Justice R S S Sapuvida where he stated: “The conduct of the second defendant (Singh) in breaching the currency controls by taking AU$50,000 (about F$77,801.88) in a case out of Fiji as testified by PW6- at least $25,000 has been taken out of Fiji by the 2nd defendant (Singh) and in making a false declaration under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Decree 2013 shows a complete disregard for compliance with his legal obligations.”

Supervisor of Elections and the Registrar of Political Parties, Mohammed Saneem who is away overseas said he would be able to comment after analysing the judgment.

Regarding the breaches on the currency controls, Razim Buksh, the director of Fiji Financial Intelligence Unit is expected to make a comment on Wednesday. He is also out of the country.
