The Fiji Football Association yesterday received $125,000 of sponsorship from Courts for next month’s Inter District Championship (IDC) at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.

Fiji FA president, Rajesh Patel said the sponsorship is the biggest from any individual sponsor for any tournament.

“This Courts IDC would not have been possible without the support and sponsorship from Courts and 78 years is a long time that they have sponsored this event,” he said.

BIGGEST DEAL

“The IDC is one of the largest sporting events and the sponsorship deal of $125,000 is the largest sponsorship invested in any Fiji FA tournament, apart from the consortium sponsorship of Vodafone. This is the largest individual sponsorship of any tournament that we have got. So we are looking forward to the tournament like everyone else.”

Courts (Fiji) Limited and Vision Group chief executive officer Priyaraj Lakmal Munasinghe said their main aim is on the development of football in the country.

“The Courts IDC marks the beginning of a series of events leading up to the 2016 Courts IDC tournament,” he said.

“The sponsorship for this year is $125,000 which is one of the largest sponsorship. Our principle aim of this sponsorship is to uplift the standard of football in the country and we want to showcase to the country the best football has to offer.”

TOUGH POOLS

This year’s tournament is going to be tough. Defending champions Ba are drawn in Group Two along with Rewa, Dreketi and Nadi while Suva are in Group One with Nadroga, Lautoka and Labasa.

“It is very interesting and very balanced pools, no one will be able to predict the winners because all teams are good,” Patel said.

“Lautoka have just won the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants and the Courts IDC has always been unpredictable and teams have to prepare well if they want to win this tournament.

“The teams have to be well prepared, the fitness level is a key thing for every team and it’s a whole week tournament so they will need to be on form.
