Another Four Workers For Seasonal Work Programme

Minister Semi Koroilavesau on Friday farewelled four seasonal workers, who are employed under the Australian Seasonal Work Programme (SWP).
The workers will be employed by MADEC under Mallee Orchards Pistachios and these arrangements were made through the partnership between Government and the Australian government.
Mr Koroilavesau highlighted that these four candidates were assessed by the National Employment Centre (NEC) and selected by the employers.
They have undergone life skills training and pre-departure orientation provided by the Ministry.
The group who will be employed for a period of three months departed for Australia yesterday and will return on December 11 this year. An extension of working visa will be determined by the employer based on their performance.
“I wish to reiterate Government’s expectations that anyone selected for employment overseas seasonal must do their best as their performance will open up doors for other potential workers here in Fiji,” said Mr Koroilavesau.
Tevita Suka of Wainikeli District, Taveuni expressed his sincere appreciation towards Government through the Ministry of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations for allowing them this golden opportunity.
He stated that he and his family were currently living with their extended family because their home was affected by Cyclone Winston. This employment opportunity would allow him and the others to save and build their own homes when they return.
“I trust that you will maintain your focus to work hard, learn as much as you can and save money for you and your family here in Fiji,” said Minister Koroilavesau.
He gave his best wishes to the workers and encouraged them to take advantage of this opportunity to fulfil their goals by adding value to their individual lives, families, community and country.
