Federation Holds Talks With Ministry Over Gymnastics

The Gymnastics Federation of Fiji is currently holding talks with the Ministry of Education with the hope to introduce gymnastics in the school curriculum.
This was confirmed yesterday by GFF president Darlene Underwood during the inaugural Oceania forum at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi.
Underwood said the sport of gymnastic which has many various forms was introduced in the country four years ago in Pacific Harbour, which is still very much alive today.
“We are reaching out to children at the moment as we are doing gymnastics at club level,” said Underwood.
She said the community school in Pacific Harbour was chosen to be the pilot for gymnastics as a sport in schools way back in 2012.
“We are working on that.
“Hopefully once we get the green light from the ministry we will be able to introduce it to the curriculum.”
Underwood said there are six clubs in Suva, Nadi and Lautoka and they should have an additional two very soon.
“There has been an excellent response especially at school levels but not that much for private clubs at the moment,” she added,
