New Members To Boost Fijian Surfing

Six new members have been elected during the Fiji Surfing Association’s annual general meeting at the Beach House in the Coral Coast yesterday.

They are- President: Isei Tokavou, Vice-President: Romeo McKellar, Secretary: John Philip, Treasurer: Andy Eames, Legal Advisor: Scott Dowd, Consultant: Edward Lovell

McKellar said the AGM was a success with a good turnout from all the eight clubs.

“We are happy with the outcome of the AGM, we discussed all the issues that were there and we are trying to enhance surfing at the club level,” he said.

“We have put a strategic plan in place and discussed our calendar, it was a success and very positive.”

The upcoming event in line for Fiji Surfing is the Girls Go Out Surfing competition which will be held on September 24 at Natadola.

“This is an event where all women and girls are invited to take part in, like most sports it is challenging to get the female involvement but we are trying to change that.

“Surfing is male dominated but we need to make it so that it is also a female dominated sport as well and that’s what we are trying to do, getting more girls to take part. We are working with our new coach Ian Portingale and we are looking forward to a positive year ahead.”
