Striker Begum Shines In Nadi’s Win

Versatile striker Yasreen Begum scored Nadi’s second goal in their 2-1 victory over Tavua in the opening round of the Vodafone Women Senior League at the Nadi Sangam ground yesterday.
What happened: It was a nail biting encounter in the first half as both teams tried to score first. The strikers gave their all but the hardworking defenders stood their ground.
Half time: Nadi 0-0 Tavua
Both teams lifted the tempo and immediately it paid dividend for Nadi as they scored through Ledua Paul to hold a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later her striking partner Begum increased their tally to 2-0.
With just 10 minutes left from full time Tavua striker Eseta Sinukula pulled one back. They went all out on attack looking to score the equaliser but the Nadi defence stood tall.
Big plays: Nadi captain Litiana Bolaivanua dictated play and set-up both their goals
Star turn: Anaisi Tora led by example and the Tavua players looked up to her.
Comments
Nadi coach Amina Hussein said: “I am happy with the overall performance of the girls.
“Though we had some downfall in terms of not having ample training time, they put on a good performance.
“Our senior players had work commitments and that is why we could not train as much as we wanted.”
Tavua’s coach Vika Sadrau said: “Defence was one of our weakest points in this game.
“We are going to work on that and improve on the next game, but overall it was a good effort by the girls.”
