Hundreds of supporters for the victorious Singh’s Rentals Lautoka football team turned up in numbers yesterday as the side made their victory march through the sugar city.

“Discipline and unity– that’s what our team is built on,” a beaming Lautoka Football president Abdul Kadar said during the celebration to mark Lautoka’s 2-0 victory over Labasa in the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants final last Sunday.

At a celebration last night, the team members shared $30,000 amongst themselves, as business houses and individuals had contributed $15,000 to match the prize money won at the B.O.G.

The march through the city, led by the Saint Thomas High School brass band, began from Marine Drive which was decked in a sea of blue.

With vehicles horns blaring and the blue flags waving, the procession meandered its way through the sugar city, down Naviti Street, then along Vitogo Parade, then on to Tavewa Avenue and then towards Churchill Park.

Along the way, people turned out in numbers in their blue attire to cheer the team on.

The B.O.G Trophy was held aloft by Shiv Bhan Singh, son of Singh’s Rentals managing director Ruban Bhan Singh.

Family members walked with the team along the route with their children leading the way.

Kadar said the support was awesome.

“The people of Lautoka loved this victory as it has been 31years since we won the B.O.G.”

The presentation night was attended by Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel, executive members, families of the players and business people.

Kadar said he was encouraged by the business support that was still coming in.

The team’s main priority next week was re-focusing on the Vodafone Premier League.

Meanwhile, Lautoka have been pooled with Suva, Labasa and Nadroga for next month’s Courts Inter District Championship.
