Team work is the reason behind the success of the Wardens rugby team in this year’s R.C. Manubhai Suva Rugby Union competition.

The Wardens have booked a spot in the Escott Shield competition next year after scooping the Koroturaga Cup at Albert Park, Suva yesterday.

The Timoci Wainiqolo coached side beat Regent Electric Breakthrough 13-9 in the final and received $2000 while the runners-up got $1000.

Wardens took control of the first half as they controlled possession and held a slender 7-3 lead at halftime.

Wardens who have the services of former national rugby sevens reps Jioji Ragamate and Sailosi Naiteqe were dominant in all phases of the game and they lifted their tempo in the second half.

Wardens manager, Vitoriano Koco praised his player’s efforts in the narrow win.

“Our main strength is team work, our main aim since we started this season was to be part of the Escott Shield competition next year.”

Regent Electric Breakthrough manager Amitesh Karan said they were overwhelmed with this year’s achievement.

“This is our first season to be playing in the Koroturaga grade.

“Reaching the final and playing Wardens is a tremendous achievement,” he said.

“We have nothing to lose, we are also happy that  we have made it to the Escott Shield grade next year.”
