DFL Courses To Be Re-introduced For Police Officers

After a lapse of ten years the Commissioner of Police has directed the Fiji Police Academy to reintroduce courses offered through Distance Flexible Learning mode.

Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says this will give more opportunities for his officers to undergo relevant qualifying courses considering the limitations the Academy has in accommodating large number of officers at any given time.

He adds he wants all of his officers to get the same opportunity to undergo courses offered by the Academy so they are able to meet the qualifying requirements that will enable them to get promotions.

As such the first of the qualifying courses to be delivered via DFL mode was opened for officers from the Southern and Eastern Division this morning by the Divisional Police Commander East Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Maretino Qiolevu at the Academy.

In his opening address, SSP Qiolevu took the opportunity to reiterate the stand taken by the Commissioner.

“The Commissioner has made his stand clear about the expectations he has of those holding senior ranks and now that you will be undergoing this course, his expectations will surely grow”.

“Use this opportunity to get back to basics because this is an area he feels is derailing most of us in our work because we are failing to get the basics right”.

The participants will be at the Academy for one week before returning to their respective posts whereby they will be required to complete the course via DFL mode.

This SSP Qiolevu says will be a challenge and will require the proper use of time.

“Others who have undergone this course were confined to the Academy so they were able to focus solely on the course and nothing else”.

“As for you, you will have the course work, work, and family to balance and with the importance of qualifying vital to your ability to progressing within, please don’t let this opportunity go to waste”.
The course will end in November and is currently also underway for officers in both the Western and Northern Divisions.
