A 19-year-old student will be questioned soon in relation to the accident that happened last Saturday at Soasoa bend, Wainikoro Road in Labasa.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro yesterday said: “A vehicle driven by a 30-year-old teacher accompanied with his wife was returning to Naleba when it is alleged that a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old student veered onto the opposite lane and collided head on.

“The teacher, his wife and the passenger of the other vehicle were taken to Labasa Hospital. The student will be questioned soon as investigation continues.”

School teacher Mohinesh Prasad of Vunika Primary School said he was returning home after shopping in Labasa Town with his wife, Niteshni Chand, 28, when the accident occurred around 1.30pm.

“I could see the vehicle coming so fast and within moments it hit our vehicle,” Mr Prasad said.

“My wife’s left arm is fractured, she has bruises on her leg and she finds it difficult to walk.

“My left arm is dislocated, having pain on the chest and legs because to the impact.

“This is a very crucial school term for us as we have to be in school to help our students prepare for exams.

“My wife is also a primary school teacher.

“I suggest and hope that Fiji Police Force and Land Transport Authority can work together to see that young drivers drive safely on our roads and don’t pose a threat to other road users.”

His wife has been discharged while he still remains admitted.

The passenger of the other vehicle is believed to be a student and is in a stable condition at the hospital as well. Edited by Ranoba Baoa
