The 2016 Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) Forum currently underway has been labelled as being truly meaningful to be held in Fiji.

Asia-Pacific Telecommunity Secretary General, Areewan Haorangsi, highlighted this yesterday during the forum at the Sheraton Fiji Resort.

She explained this was her belief since the inauguration of CTO was on the basis of ‘Pacific Cable Board’ to assist the last element of a global electrical telegraph network connecting all parts across the Pacific.

Since its establishment, the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation had served as an excellent platform to its membership in terms of applying Information Communications Technology to the development.

CTO has been noted to have contributed to the areas of ICT regulations, connectivity, cyber security, ICT applications, capacity building, and coordination of its member countries for international ICT conferences and meetings.

Asia-Pacific Telecommunity is an inter-governmental organisation for the development of telecommunications and ICT in the Asia-Pacific region.

APT has two main roles, one being to promote and support telecommunication and ICT development in the Asia-Pacific region.

The other role of the APT is to coordinate and consolidate regional views and position for the Asia-Pacific to be submitted in the ITU Conferences.

Ms Haorangsi said CTO had played an important role in assisting its memberships to use ICTs for development appropriately and effectively.

“I do believe this forum will serve as a good opportunity for CTO and its membership to discuss and share views under the theme ‘ICTs for Inclusive Growth,” he said.
