An 83-year-old great-grandmother of Valebasoga, Labasa, counted herself blessed yesterday as she sat with her family to celebrate another Eid al-Adha.

Safatun Saizad, a mother of nine children, has 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was moved to tears while describing how she felt seeing her family gathering for an important celebration in their religious calendar.

“I am very thankful to Allah for allowing me to celebrate Eid al-Adha with my family,” Ms Saizad said.

“This celebration has a special atmosphere of peace, respect, giving and receiving as well as sharing and caring. It is a special day for children because it is a day to socialise with family, friends and neighbours,” she said.

“Many Muslims are united in prayer at mosques and other appropriate venues during Eid al-Adha.”
