Despite not having a head coach, the Labasa football team are hopeful that they will win their two Vodafone Premier League matches this weekend.

The Babasiga Lions take on Ba tomorrow at 7.30pm and on Sunday face Nadi at 1pm. Both matches will be played at Subrail Park, Labasa.

Labasa Football Association vice-president Varun Anand said yesterday that the team were guided by three key people.

“The captain of the team Taniela Waqa is working together with Ravinesh Chand the manager and me for the upcoming two matches,” Anand said.

“Everyone is working together in collaboration for the good of the district and also for the players. The eighteen players are aware that they have to win against Ba and Nadi to improve their ranking in the Vodafone Premier League points table.”

Labasa are currently ranked sixth in the points table with six points.

“Preparation has been ongoing but lately we’ve been affected by the weather. Like any other matches we are seriously preparing as we need to win them both.

“We have talented players who know what they have to do in the field. They have played Ba and Nadi before and they are ready to face them again this weekend on their home ground.

All we would like to ask is for Labasa fans to gather at the park to support us,” he added.
