A 36 year old man of Sigatoka village is believed to be the country’s latest victim on our roads following an accident at Nayawa, Sigatoka today.

The incident occurred a little after midday and the victim was a passenger in a vehicle driven by a 48 year old of Sigatoka.

It is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle and as a result it veered onto the opposite lane and hit a tree. The victim was taken to the Sigatoka Hospital where he unfortunately died.

The driver has since been transferred to the Lautoka Hospital while the second passenger a 34 year old man remains admitted at the Sigatoka Hospital.

It is alleged that all the occupants of the vehicle were under the influence of alcohol and while this will have to be confirmed, it is a concern that there are some who are failing to comprehend the enormous safety threat drink driving poses.

The road death toll currently stands at 39 compared to 46 for the same period last year.
