Hello readers. We are all ready for the next Pacific Energy Shell Lubricants Drag Race which will be held next week.

We have given ample notice to the members and we hope they are all prepared this time around.

We are urging members and race car drivers to fine tune their cars way before next Sunday. I would like to also remind racers not to work on their cars on Saturday as you need to have a fresh mind to race on Sunday.

I feel some of the race car drivers’ time is not improving because they work whole night on Friday and Saturday getting their cars ready for Sunday.

Let me remind members and race car drivers that you need to have a clear mind and plenty of rest to take part in racing.

A lot of people do not know but there is a lot of pressure on drivers who race on the day.

The highlight of the last drags, we saw this happening whereby STI driver could not concentrate on the lights and he jumpstarted on his race. And he was immediately disqualified from that particular run and it cost him a trophy.

Young drivers need to start learning the basics of racing. If I take our champion driver, Ravin Nath as an example, he is always on the tracks at 8am.

This gives him ample time to set up his tent and to make minor adjustments to his engine.

Discipline is very important in race and which is why Mr Nath remains unbeaten in the past 15 years of his racing career.

It takes a lot of dedication and discipline to win races. Until and unless you have these two, you will not perform up to par on the race day.

Amazing performance by lady driver

Again I am requesting ladies to come out in numbers. We already have six full-time female racers but we would like to see more.

I was very impressed with the driving style of Aarti Ram – owner of Honda CRZ – and slowly she is starting to become a household name in Fiji as far as racing is concerned.

It was also very interesting and impressive that she beat all the male drivers in the Hybrid category.

It’s not that her car is any different from the other hybrids, but her driving style won her that category.

So lady drivers, if you own a hybrid, you can enter the hybrid category as well.

Dial in times

Again I would like to remind race car drivers to please dial in your correct time as people have not been winning because their dial in time is less than their recorded time.

We have seen three competitors went over their dial in time and they were disqualified from the category. But your personal best will still be counted in the overall timing.

Fiji Car Club Executives

At a recent executive meeting, we have changed a few of the executives’ positions.

I am very pleased to announce the following new positions for the following two executives:

 Vice President – Sandeep Prakash

 Secretary – Rahul Rajesh

Raizal Haniff is the President of the Fiji Car Club. This will be his regular feature in our Sun Wheels to keep readers updated on the latest from the Fiji Car Club.
