Ifereimi Vasu, Peniasi Kunatuba and Dhansukh Lal Bhikha have all pleaded not guilty to their charges.

Vasu, former Corrections Commissioner, and Kunatuba, former Corrections director corporate services, are charged with one count each of abuse of office.

Businessman Bhikha is charged with one count each of aiding and abetting abuse of office and obtaining a financial advantage.

They were charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption. The matter was called before Justice Vincent Perera yesterday in the HighCourt in Suva.

For Vasu, it is alleged that between July 11, 2013 and December 27, 2014 in Suva, he facilitated and approved the purchase of goods amounting to $131,683.33 from the Naboro Mart Limited.

For Kunatuba, it is alleged that between January 31, 2013 and March 7, 2014 in Suva, he facilitated and approved the purchase of goods amounting to $54,734.65 from the Naboro Mart Limited.

For Bhikha, it is alleged that between July 11, 2013 and December 27, 2015 in Suva, he, while being employed as the manager of the Naboro Mart Limited, did aid and abet, counsel and procure Vasu, in the commission of the offence of abuse of office.

It is also alleged that between January 31, 2013 and December 27, 2014 in Suva, Bhikha obtained a financial advantage amounting to $186,417.98 for Naboro Mart Limited from the Fiji Corrections Service.

Defence lawyer, Babu Singh represented Vasu, while Vani Ravono represented Kunatuba. Mela Rakai represented Bhikha.

Bail was extended for all three accused.

The court has been adjourned to January 24 for mention.
