Defending Vodafone Premier League champions Nadi escaped with a 2-2 draw against minnows Dreketi at Subrail Park, Labasa yesterday.

The Johan Leewai-coached side continued on their good form from the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament.

What happened: With the backing of their vocal fans Dreketi took an early 1-0 lead through a Ashneel Raju drive in the 10th minute. The Jetsetters pushed on and responded with a goal to Eliki Navosai at the 26th minute, which brought a lot of relieve to their bench. Dreketi did not give up and went up in the 36th minute from a Rohit Chand sizzler.

Halftime: Nadi 1-2 Dreketi

Nadi came into the second half under a lot of pressure. They defended hard and looked for openings in the Dreketi defence. They continued piling up pressure on them and got rewarded in the 57th minute when Andrew Naicker scored the equaliser.

Comments: Dreketi coach Johan Leewai applauded his players on their performance.

“We had a lot of chances to score but we will work on it before our game tomorrow.”

Nadi coach Joseph Nand said Dreketi were good but his players performed well.

“We came in as underdogs but we are glad that we were able to score and settled for a draw against Dreketi. The boys did great and we look forward to our match tomorrow.”
