A Macuata chief is determined to offer his people the best in education to mould productive individuals for a better future.

The district of Nadogo is taking the lead in this manner with the recent opening of a technical college and the construction of the internationally renowned Barefoot College initiating next month.

In an interview with this newspaper on Saturday, Tui Nadogo Ratu Ilisaniti Malodali said people needed to be educated in order to be prolific individuals in society.

“Even when people return to the village, if they are educated they become valuable members of society so I want to ensure that education is accessible for the people,” Ratu Ilisaniti said.

“Education should not be limited to only children or men but everyone should have access to it so people can be enlightened.

“When the ‘vanua’ calls, educated people are mostly quick to respond with useful motions to contribute in meetings.”

Ratu Ilisaniti said every community leader should align themselves with the Governments goal of educating every child.

“Education goes a long way and it is vital in ensuring a bright future for our communities,” he said.

In opening the Ratu Ilisaniti Malodali Technical College in Wainikoro, Nadogo last month, the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama said Fijians were now living in the golden age.

“We are privileged to be living in a golden age because never before in Fijian history have so many of our young people had access to education,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“In a wider sense, we are laying out a vision for our people of a skilled nation – educated nation, which no young person who wants to work hard and improve their lives is prevented from doing so.”
